Gerard Desmond's Biography

Jerry serves as Executive Director at 200 Park Avenue, where he specializes in orthopedics and sports physical therapy. He graduated from Hunter college physical therapy program in 1986. After graduating, he initially worked at Kings County Hospital, where he specialized in neurology with emphais towards spinal cord injuries, cerebral vascular accidents and amputee management.

In 1988, he then went into private practice specializing in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine at James Cardone and Associates, which was also known as The Center for Sports Medicine located on 5th Avenue and 39th street. The Center for Sports Medicine was sold to Health South in 1995. At that time, Jerry became the Director of the company and held that position until 1999. During his tenure with Health South Jerry developed a back school program, a work hardening program and specialized in ergonomic management. In 1999, he left HealthSouth to open up his own company which is known today as Recovery Physical Therapy.

During his twenty three years as a physical therapist, Jerry has had extensive experience in the field of sports rehabilitation with athletes at all levels of competition. Jerry provides a "hands on" approach to treating orthopedics and sports-related injuries on a recreational level, as well as, a professional sports level. He has worked with athletes from the New Jersey Nets, New York Rangers, Alvin Ailey American dancers, professional tennis players, the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Amateur boxers, and baseball athletes. His greatest passion is the sport of baseball. His accomplishments in clinical care of his patients is based on the genuine caring for patients combined with a methodical approach to diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction.
